Cedric: Your Personalized Health Gateway

Cedric is not just an application; it's your personalized gateway to a healthier lifestyle. This document unveils the simplicity and effectiveness of Cedric, a health application that specializes in providing customized diet plans based on your weight and height. We are not taking blood pressure, oxygen level, x-ray, and glucose level.

Caloric Calculation

In our application, we utilize the generally perceived Harris-Benedict equation, a norm and globally used technique for computing caloric requirements. To accurately calculate how many calories a person needs, this equation takes into account important factors like height, age, gender, and weight. Besides, the determined calories are additionally refined based on the specific objectives chosen by the client, ensuring a personalized and goal-oriented approach to nutrition. The Harris-Benedict equation is mentioned below:

  • For Men: BMR = 66.4730 + 13.7516 x weight in kg + 5.0033 x height in cm – 6.7550 x age in years.
  • For Women: BMR = 655.0955 + 9.5634 x weight in kg + 1.8496 x height in cm – 4.6756 x age in years.

To supplement this calorie computation, we implement the AMD method for macronutrient distribution. The AMD method, known for its precision and efficacy, enables us to customize the distribution of macronutrients — proteins, fats, and carbohydrates — according to individual needs. This meticulous approach ensures that users receive a balanced and personalized diet plan that aligns seamlessly with their health and fitness goals. By combining the Harris-Benedict equation and the AMD method, our application strives to provide users with a comprehensive and individualized nutritional experience tailored to their unique goals and requirements.

Caloric Tool Accuracy and Methodology

The caloric calculations in our application are performed using a sophisticated tool that relies on the renowned Harris-Benedict and Mifflin equations for calorie estimation. These equations consider factors like age, gender, weight, height, and activity level to provide a comprehensive and accurate estimate of daily caloric needs.

Methodology:

  • Harris-Benedict Condition: The Harris-Benedict equation, developed in the early twentieth century, factors in basic metabolic rate (BMR) based on gender, weight, height, and age. It forms the foundation of our caloric tool, providing a baseline estimate of calories needed at rest.
  • Mifflin-St Jeor Condition: The Mifflin-St Jeor equation, considered more accurate for modern lifestyles, refines BMR calculations by accounting for lean body mass. This equation further enhances the precision of our caloric tool, especially for those with varying levels of physical activity.

Accuracy: Our caloric tool is designed with precision, using these established equations to deliver accurate estimates tailored to individual user profiles. Users can trust that the calculated caloric values align closely with their unique metabolic needs.

Food List

We are using a food list from the USDA Food List. This food list specifies the calories of each ingredient according to the serving size. The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (SR) provides detailed information about the nutritional composition of various foods, including calories, serving sizes, and other nutrients.

Here are more details about how the information is presented in the USDA food list:

  • Calories: The database includes the calorie content for each food item. Calories represent the amount of energy provided by the food when consumed.
  • Serving Sizes: For each food item, the database specifies a standard serving size. This helps in providing a consistent basis for comparing the nutritional content of different foods.
  • Macronutrients: The database provides information on the macronutrient content of foods, including total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugars, and protein. Each nutrient is expressed in grams or milligrams per serving.
  • Micronutrients: In addition to macronutrients, the database also includes information on various vitamins and minerals present in foods. This may include vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, potassium, and others.

Reference Values: The nutrient values are typically presented as a percentage of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) or Adequate Intakes (AIs) for certain nutrients. This provides context for understanding the nutritional significance of the food.

Additional Details:

  • The database may include additional information, such as the food's water content, ash (mineral) content, and other specific components that contribute to the overall composition of the food.
  • The USDA provides information on the sources of the data and the methods used for analysis. This transparency ensures the reliability and accuracy of the nutritional information.
  • The USDA regularly updates and revises the database to reflect changes in the food supply and to incorporate the latest scientific research on nutrition.

Food Preferences and Allergic Customized Diet Plan

Our application takes care of individual preferences by offering four distinct food preferences for users to choose from, allowing them to align their diet plans with their culinary tendencies. Moreover, we recognize the critical importance of addressing allergies in personalized nutrition. Users have the option to specify their allergies, and our system is equipped to generate diet plans that exclude allergens appropriately. It is essential, however, that users exercise due diligence in accurately selecting their allergies during the customization process. The responsibility lies with the user to carefully and precisely indicate any allergies they may have. In the case of an allergy, such as a nut allergy, it is crucial for users to make the appropriate selection to ensure that their diet plan is free from the allergen. Please note that the accuracy of allergy information rests entirely with the user, and the application cannot be held responsible for any discrepancies or omissions in the provided data.

Step Count

The step count feature in our application is seamlessly integrated with sensor technology designed to accurately track and calculate your daily physical activity. This sensor, typically embedded in your device, captures movement patterns and translates them into step counts. As you go about your day, the sensor precisely measures each step you take, providing real-time data on your physical activity levels.

The step count functionality enhances the overall user experience by offering a convenient and automated way to monitor your daily movements. Whether you're walking, jogging, or engaging in any form of physical activity, the sensor ensures that the step count reflects your efforts accurately.

By leveraging sensor technology, our application aims to empower users with a reliable and effortless method of tracking their daily steps, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of their physical activity and overall fitness journey.
